As part of the Guided by Artists programme, artists of the Wiener Festwochen invite visitors to join them in very personal guided tours. These artistic field trips will lead to the Paintings Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, to the archives of the Musikverein as well as the city’s bell towers. The tours offer a unique insight into an artistic – and this year thoroughly musical – universe and the opportunity to (re)discover the city and its collections.

Conductor and choirmaster Geoffroy Jourdain, whose production t u m u l u s can be seen at this year’s Wiener Festwochen, is extending an invitation to enjoy a highly sensory experience at the Academy of Fine Arts. With the Picture Gallery plunged in darkness late in the evening, sounds resonate throughout its space. The artist establishes musical references to selected works and directs the viewer’s gaze specifically at individual details of the artworks, literally casting them in a new light.

Tandem Overview Tour (German) in the exhibitions Hungry for Time and Thicket of Ideas – Thicket of Times with art educators in the Paintings Gallery and the Art Information Desk of the Exhibit Gallery.

Workshop for children and youths between 8 and 14 years old: Freely and informally, we record everything we see in Hungry for Time . With these impressions we start into our own sketchbook. Whether using ballpoint pen, graphite, charcoal or chalk: Looking at old and new art helps us to discover a very personal idiom with the material of your choice.

In the spirit of collaboration, students of the Performing Arts class have engaged with works in the Raqs Media Collective exhibition, and will present a durational screening of performative works: Artist Negin Rezaie uses Raqs Media Collective's carpet work, Values Flicker but do Not Coincide (2021), commissioned specifically for the auditorium, as the starting point for a performance.
